Ever since I can remember I’ve loved horses. I was introduced to dressage as a teenager in New York, and instantly captivated! And so began a fascination that has lasted the rest of my life.
This burning desire to master dressage has led me on adventures I never could have imagined. I’ve studied with some amazing teachers and journeyed long in foreign lands. I’ve had much success and lived through many setbacks and heartaches. Now back in California, my mission is to impart my knowledge to the horses and students in my care, and encourage others who would follow my path.
I have a full service training/boarding stable near Los Angeles. Our clients are primarily interested in competitive riding. Our horses are a wide variety of breeds and ages.
I started riding as a child in Florida on Welsh ponies. A retired cavalry officer taught me the basics of dressage on his “big” horses. When my family moved to Bedford, NY, I joined the Pony Club and began to ride in shows. I spent many years eventing under the tutelage of Michael Page and Jim Wofford. My first dressage instructor was Richard Waetjen, a German who came to Bedford to coach the US Team in the early years.Hilda Gurney encouraged me to start teaching in Los Angeles in 1980. Since establishing myself as an instructor, I have had the wonderful opportunity to train and compete in Germany for a total of more than seven years, about a third of my career. I have been most influenced by my teachers George Theoderescu, Kyra Kyrklund, Herbert Rehbein, Klaus Balkenhol and Jonnie Hilbarath. I hold regular clinics with Erica Poseley and Gail Hoff-Carmona.
Among my accomplishments are:1983 USET Foreign Travel Grant Recipient, 1884 USDF Gold Medalist, USET Long Listed with Achat, USET Short Listed with Nebelhorn, Medalist at three Olympic Festivals, 2000 Festival of Champions, 2002 “A” Listed with Reveille. As a resident of Germany from 2001 to 2005, I competed in many international shows for America all over Europe, as well as German National competitions.
